I will discuss the design, build and launch of the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) and describe how its development was uniquely enabled by multiple partners. I will discuss my own experience bringing the mission together as the lead systems engineer, and how a systems engineering career may be suitable for physics & astronomy majors.
